Winners of 2012 4-H Trash Barrel Painting Contest Announced

Representatives of Ross Environmental Services, Inc. today announced the winners of the 2012 Lorain County Fair 4-H Trash Barrel Painting Contest.

Nine winning trash barrels were selected and the club members who created them will be awarded ribbons and prizes at the Lorain County Fair on Junior Fair Night, Thursday, August 23.

Awards will be given for first, second and third place in three age categories: 5-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds and 13-18 year olds. The theme of the barrel painting contest this year was “Feed the Can” and 19 trash barrels from 15 4-H clubs were entered in this year’s competition.  Winning trash barrels were selected for their neatness, creativity and conformance to the theme.

 

Winners in the 5 – 8 year olds category were: (Click to view)

- First Place– receiving a $75 prize– Elyria Precious Pups with advisor Sue Malik of Elyria;

- Second Place– receiving a $50 prize– Sunset Riders with advisor Pam Loy Columbia Station; &

- Third Place– receiving a $25 prize– Brownhelm Perfection & BB Club with advisor Jennifer Westover of Brownhelm.

 

The winners in the 9-12 year olds category were: (Click to view)

- First Place– receiving a $75 prize– Belden B’s & G’s with advisor Al Divencenzo of Belden;

- Second Place– receiving a $50 prize– Cisco Kids with advisor Ken Ritter of Columbia Station; &

- Third Place– receiving a $25 prize– Brownhelm Perfection & BB Club with advisor Jennifer Westover of Brownhelm.

 

The winners in the 13 – 18 year olds category were: (Click to view)

- First Place– receiving a $75 prize– Sunset Riders with advisor Pam Loy of Columbia Station;

- Second Place– receiving a $50 prize– Bits & Spurs with advisor Brenda Mills of Collins; &

- Third Place– receiving a $25 prize- Cisco Kids with advisor Ken Ritter of Columbia Station.

 

The nine winning entries will be on display in the Junior Fair Barn throughout the fair.

“We have been sponsoring the trash barrel painting contest for many years and each year, we are amazed at the creativity of the 4-H members.  This contest not only lets them show their creativity, but also enables us to make the fairgrounds a brighter and more appealing place for fair visitors,” Maggie Kelch, Director, Corporate Communications for Ross Environmental Services added.
