Midview Schools "Make A Difference" Hall of Honor

Six people were inducted into the first class of the Midview Schools Hall of Honor including (left to right):

Maureen M. Cromling, Chairman of the Board of the Ross companies, was recently inducted into the Midview Local Schools "Make A Difference" Hall of Honor. Cromling is a graduate of Midview High School and wasn honored for her leadership in business and philanthropy in the community.

The Midview "Make A Difference" Hall of Honor program recognizes Midview alumni, staff and volunteers whose exceptional achievemetns have added to the outstanding reputation of the Midview Schools. This was the first year for the award program which is designed to develop positive relationships between alumni, students and friends by recognizing Midview's distinguished alumni and retired staff and volunteers for their contributions as excellent role models to the students and community. The goal of the program is to expose Midview's studetns to the achievements of district alumni and to connect them with role models who have been part of the Midview Heritage.

More than 40 people were nominated for the awards. The award selection committee was comprised of 10 Midview High School students who reviewed the applications. Six recipients were inducted into the inaugural class of the Hall of Honor:

  • Maureen Ross Cromling - alumni and Chairman of the Board of the Ross companies;
  • Tom Batiuk - alumni and nationally-known cartoonist, creater of "Funky Winkerbean";
  • Ron Jantz - alumni and sports broadcaster who now works for Lorain County Community College;
  • Col. Scott Manning - alumni and U.S. Air Force who has received many honors including the Flying Cross with V for valor;
  • Henry Schriver - alumni and former State Representative who has been active in the schools and community; and
  • Linda Motznik - retired teacher who initiated many girls sports at Midview High School and drug free coordinator for the schools.

The inductees were honored at the Midview Schools Achievement Night and then at a special assembly where they spoke to the members of the Midview High School Junior and Senior classes.
