The Ross companies held
a paint and motor oil collection event as a community service as part
of a local school's environmental festival on Saturday, March 29,
2008.
Associates from all three of the Ross companies, Ross Environmental
Services, Inc., Ross Incineration Services, Inc. and Ross Transportation
Services, Inc., participated in the collection held at the Christian
Community School's "Go Green Festival." At the same time,
the Christian Community School had arranged for other local businesses
to collect scrap metal, computers, cell phones, propane tanks and
tires at this event. The event also featured a number of vendors,
inside the gym building, who were displaying different environmentally
friendly products and services.
At the collection event, the Ross companies collected more than 3,140
gallons of latex paint, solvent-based paint, motor oil, empty containers
(after the motor oil was poured into drums) and aerosol cans of paint.
This included 1,765 gallons of latex paint, 605 gallons of solvent-based
paint, 440 gallons of motor oil and 55 gallons of aerosol cans.
"This was a very successful collection event at which Christian
Community School and the Ross companies successfully disposed of more
than 3,000 gallons of paint and motor oil in an environmentally responsible
manner. It is just one more example of how What We Do Matters in the
local community," said Maggie Kelch, corporate communications
and community relations manager for Ross Environmental Services.

"Over the years, we have safely transported and disposed of more
than 86,000 gallons of household hazardous waste collected as a community
service in our local area. We believe it is important to contribute
to our local community and by collecting hazardous waste materaisl
we are performing a valuable community service that also helps to
protect the environment," Kelch added.
She said that the event
not only provides a necessary environmental service to local residents
but is also an educational event as well. "By bringing items
to the collection, local residents can gain a better understanding
of the types of materials that are managed on a daily basis by the
Ross companies at our facilities in Eaton Township. They can see that
the materials we routinely receive from industry are the same, or
similar to, the materials they use every day in their homes,"
Kelch added.
