July 1, 2008 - The caustic
soda market is currently experiencing unprecedented tightness due to
three major manufacturers announcing force majeure, resulting
in the implementation of formal allocation programs. A consequence of
these market dynamics has resulted in dramatic price increases for caustic
soda with additional future increases expected.
Due to these dramatic increases
in neutralization costs, Ross Environmental Services, Inc. is implementing
a neutralization surcharge effective August 1, 2008 on waste disposal
charges. It will appear as a separate line item on invoices.
The surcharge rate will
be variable. Adjustments will be based upon changes in the US average
spot price for caustic soda as reported by Chemical Week
magazine's price report.
The rate will adjust on
the first day of each month depending upon the caustic soda price listed
in the previous week's issue of Chemical Week. For example, the
US average spot price on June 30 in Chemical Week, Volume 170,
Issue Number 20, is $690 per ton. This price corresponds with
a surcharge rate of 2.3%.
